June 19, 2020
Dear OPA Families,
Wow, it has been an unusual year!! There have been many challenges that we have all faced together, and many exciting and wonderful moments, as well. We are sure that no one will forget this year, but we know we will remember it for some of the amazing things that our OPA community achieved!!
Some of our best memories of 2019-2020 school year are those of our students, staff, and families coming together to make OPA a fantastic place to go to school. From the Hoedown at SOC to the Fall Festival at SV; the awesome new traditions we created with The Scripps’s Spelling Bee, the Battle of the Books, eSports, and the Academic Pentathlon; and all of the fun online activities during remote learning like the Friday parties, Zoom enrichment sessions, scavenger hunts, and book clubs, it was a year packed full of engaging educational adventures for our champions. And we are all looking forward to an even better year in the fall.
Over the summer, we want our champions to relax, have fun, and enjoy some much-needed time off. However, we also want them to have the opportunity to keep up-to-speed with their learning and have voluntary enrichment activities that they can participate in. Therefore, our teachers have created a folder of Summer Bridge Activities, by grade level and MI, for our champions. You can also access the Summer Bridge Activities on our OPA website.
We have opened access to report cards in the Aeries Parent Portal. To view your student’s report card, log into the portal and select the “Grades” tab. If you have a student in grades TK-5, select “Standards Based Report Card.” If you have a student in grades 6-8, select “Grades”. If you need to print or download a copy of your student’s report card, simply select “Print” at the top of the page and then select “Download Report” from the report viewer. If you have any issues accessing your student’s report card, please email your Chancellor. We will not be mailing hard copies of report cards this year in order to limit the risk of transmitting the COVID-19 virus and to keep our staff and families safe.
We know that everyone is eager to hear more about our plans for reopening school in the fall. The OPA Planning Guide for the 2020-2021 school year will be posted on the website on Monday evening, along with the Agenda for the June 25th Board of Directors Meeting. This guide has our proposed plans for reopening school in August, including specific information about schedules, health and safety guidelines, communication, and much more. The plan will also be presented at the June 25th Board of Directors Meeting. Thank you to everyone for your feedback regarding our reopening plans. Your input, along with information and guidance from state, local, and federal officials, allowed us to create a comprehensive plan, taking into consideration the needs of all of our various stakeholder groups.
We want to again thank all of our OPA staff, students, and families for an incredible year. It is because of all of you that we were able make the 2019-2020 school year such a success, amidst so many challenges and obstacles. With the knowledge that we have gained and the amazing strides in our instruction, technology, health, and safety, we know that 2020-2021 will be an even bigger success. We will miss you all over the summer, but we look forward to seeing you back at OPA in the fall… well except for our awesome 8th grade class, who will be starting their high school journey!
Please make sure to look out for emails and communications throughout the summer with updated information and instructions for completing online data confirmation in August. Stay safe, stay healthy, and have a wonderful summer break Champions!!
Sincerely,
The OPA Administrative Team
